The domain forsec.ca was registered on Sep 19, 2024.

Earlier on, the acronym FSC was used, which together with the names possibly caused some confusion with the FSC: Forest Stewardship Council, a forestry certification organization (fsc.org was registered April 8, 1997; fsc.ca was registered on Oct 20, 2000; currently fsc.ca takes one to the website for STANTEC, a Canadian environmental consulting company).

From FORSEC NEWS Oct 17, 2024″  Announcing “FORSEC”
“We’re excited to announce “FORSEC” (pronounced for-sec) as our new preferred abbreviation. This name creatively reflects our full title—FORestry SEctor Council. Our new abbreviation carries a dual meaning: it signifies that we exist for the forestry sector while also representing our role as a driving force and pillar for the workforce and industry…This transition is well timed with the growth of the organization, as we recently expanded from two to seven employees.  As such, our visibility increases, making it crucial to strengthen our brand identity. The pivot to FORSEC will also avoid confusion with the Forest Stewardship Council. As part of this transition, we have updated our web domain to forsec.ca. This change will simplify our email and web communications, making it easier for you to connect with us. Our web domain and email addresses will be redirected, meaning either forsec.ca or the full forestrysectorcouncil.ca will reach us (and you won’t need to update existing contacts!). Overall, this update will enhance our identity and clearly communicate our commitment to the forestry workforce of Nova Scotia. This change comes at a crucial time as we expand our team and increase the visibility of the services and supports we provide to the forestry sector workforce.”

N.S. establishes Forestry Sector Council, appoints new board
June 28, 2021 By P&PC Staff
Nova Scotia has established a new Forestry Sector Council (FSC) in an effort to further develop a skilled workforce for the province’s forest industry…FSC can trace its roots to the Nova Scotia Forest Industry Regional Industrial Training Committee, formed in 1989. The committee eventually evolved into the Nova Scotia Forestry Human Resources Sector Council…While the organization has been in existence for some time and has provided support for various human resources–related activities, it has grown most substantially over the last year amid changes in Nova Scotia’s forestry sector precipitated by the closure of Northern Pulp.Prior to the appointment of the new board, interim management was provided by the executive of Forest Nova Scotia…The new board directors are: Andrew Fedora, Chair,mFedora is currently leader in sustainability and outreach for Port Hawkesbury Paper, with over 25 years’ experience in the forestry sector…Cassie Turple, First Vice-Chair, Amanda Mombourquette, Second Vice-Chair..Jocelyn Taylor Archibald, Executive Committee Member..Elizabeth Jessome..Heidi MacInnis..David Meister..Adam Scott..Marcus Zwicker”.

We now have another “FSC” in Nova Scotia forestry 1July2021
Post on nsforestnotes.ca July 1, 2021 “Most of us associate the acronym “FSC” with Forest Stewardship Council certification. Recently, the Nova Scotia Forestry Human Resources Sector Council for which “interim management was provided by the executive of Forest Nova Scotia” rebranded itself the Forestry Sector Council and is using the acronym FSC in its literature. It seems an unnecessary muddying of the waters.’
