Re: APT25016A and APT25013ABC posted on the HPMV [see below], comments due Nov 22, 2025. Original Notice: Aug 12, 2025, comments deadline delayed because of woods closures due to burn bans.
Comments Bev W:
“Wow. Aren’t you at all concerned about creating a very inflammable coniferous plantation stand so close to an area with a lot of residences at Trout Lake — an area that was already terrorized by the Long Lake Fire which was burning largely on plantation and other young coniferous forest?
“I watched this fire extremely closely using both the NRCAN, Copernicus, and FireMap services, and when that fire spread, it just jumped from one plantation or early coniferous growth area to the next. You could see the hot spots jumping each day from stand to stand. People who live in that area were also commenting on what burned and it was all those young coniferous stands.
“Why on earth would you even consider establishing conifer stands so close to people’s homes, or to the south of some of the towns like Inglisville and Lawrencetown. We saw how quickly the Long Lake Fire spread and just blew right toward the valley.
“It’s important to start being a lot more pro-active about NOT creating more fire bombs near our communities — or actually, not creating more of these highly flammable stands of trees anywhere after seeing how these wild fires behave now that we are in a time of climate change and obviously having hotter, drier summers. I advise you to start taking this into consideration from now on.
“If you want to set up these kinds of plantations, do it in areas that have already been badly burnt up and at least they will be surrounded by hundreds of acres of previously burnt over areas that are unlikely to go on fire again any time soon. Don’t put them around people’s houses where they could become ground zero for more devastating fires!”
