Growing Forests
“Growing Forests was born out of concern for the amount of clearcutting in privately owned forests. As landowners grow older, many have to sell their woodlots for a multitude of reasons. Often, this means woodlots are immediately clearcut and sold to foreign investors. Growing Forests was created to provide a better option for woodlot-succession owners by offering a trusted, local option that is committed to proper, ecological forests values that reach far beyond immediate returns…We identify high quality, at-risk Acadian-Wabanaki timberlands. We acquire the land and implement a disciplined, sustainable forestry plan to strengthen the forest in anticipation of climate change and to maximize carbon sequestration. Our project is certified by The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program for Improved Forest Management.

Each property we place under easement requires a recent management plan, and we work with trusted professionals to provide advice that will ensure the future success of your woodlot…We are working with carbon developers who are interested in purchasing our forest carbon credits.We are currently looking for properties over 250 acres that have a special stewardship value, with a high component of mature forest.”
