It appears that this list is as close as a member of the general public can get to finding out who does what in the NS Department of Natural Resources, Forestry [section?].
There are no annual reports, no description of personnel and responsibilities.
When you click on a name, an Microsoft Outlook link comes up; if you don’t use that email application, it can be difficult to find out the actual e-mail address. However, in most cases, the e-mail address is FirstName.LastName@novascotia.ca, e.g. Peter.Bush@novascotia.ca. Phone numbers are given.
If you send an inquiry directly to a staff member, you may be requested, as I have, to “go through Communications Nova Scotia”. Apparently Staff are not encouraged to converse freely with the public or even with their professional colleagues outside of government. I (David P) have been told by a reliable source that staff e-mail is monitored, that [in recent years] professional scientific staff have been reprimanded over comments made in e-mail exchanges with professional colleagues outside of government, even though the comments would otherwise be seen as part of normal back and forth banter between scientific colleagues. It has definitely had a chilling effect on communication.
