February 28, 2026:

🏛️ What Happened This Week at the Nova Scotia Legislature 🏛️
It has been a packed week. Government has been setting schedules that begin with opposition briefings around 8:00 a.m. and calling the House to sit until 11:59 p.m. most days.
Next week starts with Public Bills Committee on Monday and contact information is below if you want to participate.
Also below is a Week In Review overview of government bills and motions you should know about. I’ve tagged the responsible Ministers for anyone who wants to call and share concerns but don’t forget to reach out to your own MLA as well.
📣 What You Can Ask Your MLA To Do:
1️⃣ Vote a particular way on a Bill or Resolution you care about.
2️⃣ Read your letter or raise your concerns during Estimates, Supply, Question Period, as a Resolution, or as a Petition.
3️⃣ Vote NO to the Appropriations Act (the Budget).

💰 BUDGET PROCESS
The budget follows a slightly different path. You can read the full process here: https://nslegislature.ca/legislativ…/budget/budget-process.
Here’s the simplified version:
1️⃣ Budget Speech Delivered – Feb. 23
2️⃣ Estimates (“Committee of the Whole”) – Ministers are questioned for 40 total hours (usually 4 hours/day) – began Feb. 24
3️⃣ Budget Debate (“Supply”) – MLAs debate the overall direction, priorities, cuts, and spending
4️⃣ Supply Bill (Appropriations Act) – Authorizes spending; introduced and voted on after debate and Estimates
5️⃣ Royal Assent – The Bill becomes law
